I am curious. Does this mod increase the distance that AI will engage from? If not, any considerations of adding that feature?

I just re-installed MCC so I'll see if that solves the problem. If not, help is definitely appreciated. Again, I'm excited to see the H3 mod come to light, I'll have to play the CE mod soon

Weapon damage values are preserved from H2 to H3 with only slight modifications to accomodate H3 AI so the high damage you deal and receive gameplay is still the same. It does feel slightly different because of the AI and encounters being around Brutes rather than elites though.

I'd be happy to help if you run into issues getting H3 mods to show up when the time comes. Just let me know.

If this mod at least plays anything like the Halo 2 mod, I'm sure it'll kick ass. I just gotta get my Halo 3 mods to work, for some reason they don't show up. Hopefully I get that squared away before the mod drops, I'll be looking out for it

I'm about 70% done with the H3 mod as we speak, and while its not lore accurate, a lot of people complained about vehicles so I've made it much harder to kill passengers in Warthogs and Prowlers so that they're at least viable. I'm selfishly keeping Banshee and Ghost health lore accurate because I actually love lore balance on those but in H3's sandbox it's less of an issue. And thankfully Brute vehicles in lore are simple and heavily armored so the chopper and prowler are quite viable.

So all in all, vehicle combat in H3 is much more forgiving than previous entries due to the encounter design and lore inaccurate vehicle buffs.

@orangastang I'm not super well versed in the expanded lore of Halo so I wouldn't know, but this mod is definitely a fun experience (probably would've been easier if I had realized earlier how OP the needler was lmao), but man some of those vehicle sections got tough. I actually had to stick to Heroic . That said, I think this mod is a good example of how modern Halo should feel. On older consoles the slower more methodical trading of damage worked fine, but on PC having the ability to carve your way through a batch of enemies while still needing to play it safe feels like the best way to go, rather than focusing on the enhanced movement stuff. I don't know if you ever plan on making a fork of this mod, but if there was an in-between between the changes in this mod with some stronger vehicles so those sections play more like vanilla, I would almost consider that the definitive way to play Halo 2.

@Qsfff Originally I modified the script to kill him in one hit (to be lore accurate). It was a good challenge and a funner encounter. But the changes made the original Bungie script more unstable and prone to making him unkillable, so I had to revert my changes.

On Legendary, with the OG script and number of times you need to hit Regret, the number of reinforcements were truly oppressive, making it a game of luck with the odds completely stacked against the player, so reduced the reinforcements.

Banshee is super fun to use when it is normal conditions, and i didnt noticed any problems with regret, but no reinforcements make him very easy
But i guess this entire mod is just easier version of Halo 2 so it is fine

@Qsfff oh and just in case you come across it like many others have, the Regret boss fight can occasionally soft lock where he never dies. But that's due to Bungies scripting, not mine.

@nick dickem Glad you enjoyed it. I honestly cant play vanilla anymore after making the mods because everything feels like a bullet sponge. As for the vehicles, in lore plasma weapons are nasty, eat through armor, and come in small packages. This does mean that in universe, many small vehicles fold under fire to them. And after my research, the Ghost has shockingly low armor compared to how it's portrayed in the games. With its thin armor in a universe with extremely destructive weapons, its a speedy glass cannon.

@Qsfff for Scorpion, I'll give it a look. I do t think I changed the speed or if I did, it was actually faster.

For the Banshee, I'll also take a look but I wonder if its the increased speed of the Banshees interacting with the scripts to fake storm physics during the station freefall. It is possible to get to the objective though, so its annoying but not a softlock.

Just finished a campaign playthrough, and I gotta say, the weapon changes from a player perspective were nice, it helped break the stalemates you sometimes find yourself in whilst playing vanilla, but there were definitely some encounters where I felt I was being bent over a table constantly. Vehicle sections became heart attack simulators because of how fragile they were. I def wouldn't recommend this to a more casual player, but it was an interesting challenge and I prefer the weapon balance of this waaaay more than vanilla. Overall, good job on the mod

Also i dont see it mentioned anywhere but scorpion shots seem to be much slower because i am not hitting banshees while aiming same way i do in vanilla. What is reason for that?

Yes, it is much better now. And i guess there is buff to ghost speed even if i dont feel it because i managed to ride into scarab beam before it disappeared

@devil make rye vehicles are weaker to be more lore accurate but the banshee and ghost in particular had some unintended coding that made them weaker than intended. Not sure if you're finished the campaign but ghosts and banshees are fixed now and more durable for the player.

@Qsfff oneshot ghost should be fixed now. When the vehicle takes damage and parts explode, that explosion does a certain amount of damage to the player. In your case, a single shot brought the Ghost’s health low enough to trigger one explosion, which then caused a chain reaction that set off explosions in other parts of the vehicle and dealt even more damage to you.

The explosions are still there but the damage has been reduced by half to prevent 1 shots killing the vehicle and player if the player is at full/half shields.

Lemme know if anything else out there is strange.

@Qsfff I'll take a look and do some testing since that's not normal and would be incredibly frustrating. I'll have to look at the speed thing too since that one worked for me on Legendary.

Are you playing with any skulls on?

Yes, i am getting oneshot, i am playing on heroic and not legendary.
Also i am sure that i am not hit in fuel tank
It is very frustrating to just die from single random shot, and tactics you described is what i already was doing, i also dont see any increase in ghost speed from vanilla Halo 2.

@Qsfff are you really getting one-shot? If that's true, then something is wrong because vehicles only die when the player health drops to zero.

Ghost bolts were given some accuracy error to be realistic and counter enemies from having perfect accuracy while firing much farther away. I'm not looking to convince you it was a good design decision, only to let you know why it was made.

Ghosts were given double their normal speed so you're supposed to strafe and do hit and run tactics, but some vanilla Legendary levels send so many at you that it does get tedious.

I know the spot in Outskirts you're referring to, and it's rough, but you gotta adjust the way you're playing and strafe your targets. I'm not great at Halo and squeezed through so I'm confident you can too, even if its not the way you find fun. Also consider dropping the difficulty as that usually spawns far less vehicles to contend with and makes them less aggressive and accurate. (I highly recommend that for Delta Halo)

Outskirts is just impossible. Using ghost means you die from 1 hit which is absolutly stupid. Using warthog means you have to rely on marines, but they are too busy shooting indestructible phantoms and not even their turrets so you die anyway. And i am definetly not going to go on foot for every single vehicle section, this is not how this game is meant to be.
It is very stupid that ghosts make you less durable than just going on foot. And accuracy nerf doesnt even allow to shoot enemies from afar so they dont oneshot you.

@XTERMINATOR06 it's not you, it's a Bungie bug that my scripting made even worse so I'm reverting the changes to reduce the frequency of it.

It was fine in CE because there wasnt as many vehicles, but Halo 2 is full of vehicle sections and with this mod they are just unlpayable

@o H4PPYCR4CK o That's odd. I've never had that happen to me unless it was a round to the Ghost's energy tank.

Marines unfortunately don't have the armor to withstand much fire before going down in a lore accurate scenario. To help, I buffed the friendly AI as much as I could with targeting speed and accuracy. But the reality is that the warthog is a death trap of a vehicle in a lore accurate military scenario because it has no armored cover for its occupants.

I think that vehicles and friendly AI need to be reworked. I'll be driving around and just randomly explode when a stray projectile hits and its not very fair or realistic. The Marines are essentially useless and die way too quickly. Good mod overall though

@Commander Kibbins that was the plan. But these mods take a long time (1-2 months). I have some game backlogs to get to so the next one is probably 3-4 months out.

@ptdaniels52 since its happening to you and has happened to me in the past, it means something in the scripting doesnt work correctly under unclear conditions. Since it's a soft lock (you can't kill Regret) reverting to Bungies original script while lowering the reinforcements is probably the best call

@ptdaniels what difficulty are you playing on? I thought I fixed that since it never came up in my last round of testing. The intent was to punch him twice to kill him but the original scripting is complicated.

I may need to revert it so you still have to hit him until he warps 4 times but I can tone down the reinforcements he gets.

@clippy thats technically possible but not for me. The Halo CE AR was work done by prolific modder Vengeful Vadam and team and he graciously shared his work. I dont have the skills to modify/create weapons like him.

@Clippy the assault rifle's max spread is significantly lower than the SMG when firing for extended periods. The SMG bullet magnetism is also slightly reduced along with the range.

SMG is better in short/medium engagements and the Assault Rifle in Medium-Long but they're very similar at the engagement ranges Halo 2 likes to throw at the player.

Really come's down to personal preference. Dual welding SMGs obviously have much higher DPS.

@Doomen No workshop mod works with anniversary graphics (that I know of). Before I added the CE assault rifle I could replace the Halo 2 campaign maps locally with the mod and the anniversary graphics did work as the game thought they were the standard campaign missions. Same for the CE version of the mod. But for whatever reason, packaging the mod for the workshop prevents Anniversary graphics from working.

@WolfShadow2021 I found out the hard way that if you die about 10-20 times really close the time you respawn, the game actually loads you at the checkpoint two times back.

i also may of created a death loop on metropolis after the scorpion section cause i gave 2 marines rocket launchers
