Also it's best to assume positively than negatively; ResolutionBlue from what I remember, has stated they're not really working on anything new in terms of addons, but when bugs might show up, they'll iron them out. Not to say you're being aggressive in terms of accusatory statements, but it's best to just relax and maybe wait for answers sometimes. Cheers, my friend.

@bruhhh I can answer your question on why they don't use it. It's simple. Pre-2007 game titles like Half Life 2, CS:S and DOD:S were built on earlier branches of the Source Engine that lacked native RTT shadow support. Retrofitting would require significant engine rewrites. RTT shadows are more GPU-intensive. Older titles were optimized for mid-2000s hardware, where dynamic shadows could cause performance drops that honestly, did not need to be a reality, especially for their already successful titles. Also not to mention, Many early Source games relied on baked lighting and Radiosity Normal Mapping for soft shadows. Adding RTT shadows could clash with the established visual style. However there IS one exception being Team Fortress 2 that uses RTT shadows now. Other titles after 2007 would be like Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2 and even some non-Valve titles like No More Room In Hell, Garry's Mod, Black Mesa and even lesser-known games like Estranged: Act I.

Why doesn't bro respond to my question
t5d6k3 Oct 23 @ 10:10am
Why does this not show the weapon shadow when first person shadows are on?
Judge Oct 21 @ 3:28pm
i have both this mod and CSM enabled, for some reason i have to disable then re-enable this mod's shadows every time i load a world for them to show up alongside CSM. CSM gets rid of shadows for every light source besides sunlight, so i pair this mod with CSM because it brings back those indoor lights that CSM removes.

if possible, could you make this mod compatible with CSM?

@Goggles, there is unfortunately no shadow angle limit, so the best fix for this is to increase the “Shadow Shorten Factor” in the client settings.
Goggles Oct 19 @ 6:03am
is there a way to fix the shadow looking super long in certain angles?
JusticeBoomer Oct 18 @ 3:20am
Nevermind, I've fixed my problem by defaulting all the addon's shadow settings and then switching the shadows in the graphics setting to low and then high again, which fixed the problem I was having!:steamhappy:
bruhhh Oct 15 @ 10:45pm
Then, why don't they use it?
ResolutionBlue  [author] Oct 15 @ 9:35pm
@bruhhh, yes. The Source engine has these RTT shadows by default.
bruhhh Oct 15 @ 3:23pm
Where did you get this RTT? Does the Source Engine have it?
BlueCup43 Oct 1 @ 2:55pm
budget CSM (if you set the shadows to look darker it looks better)
gnarp gnap Sep 29 @ 10:51am
awesome sauce:steamhappy:
JusticeBoomer Sep 25 @ 6:46am
Addon no longer works on my end and instead makes the shadows look like small puddles of darkness and also requiring the user to verify their game files to get the default shadows of the source engine back.
Sarah Sep 4 @ 11:12am
gotcha thanks
ResolutionBlue  [author] Sep 4 @ 11:04am
@cringeybabey, the mod's main purpose is to customize the vanilla shadows. This mod doesn't change how the shadows work. The only things that can't be achieved without this mod are the "Use Sun Direction" and "Enable Door Shadows" toggles.
Sarah Sep 4 @ 4:40am
so does this alter the shadows in any way by default? or does it just give you the option to customize shadows?
AstroVox Aug 23 @ 7:45am
This is lame, i don't see a diffrence. Sorry i'm always a typo
ResolutionBlue  [author] Aug 15 @ 9:41am
@RapidFire57821, It’s not completely incompatible, but from what I remember the first person shadows from both mods don’t work together.
RapidFire57821 Aug 15 @ 9:07am
does this work with CSM
naxostomb Aug 13 @ 12:46pm
i cant figure out how to get the mod working at all

Shadows don't even work right
Omega Query Aug 1 @ 9:50am
@cold cash money kid Remember to have sv_cheats 1 enabled for the functionalities to fully take effect. Another thing to make the shadows look nicer is to change the blur around the shadow edges. I personally have the blur turned off entirely for sharp shadows, but setting it low gives a nice effect too. Another mod that aids this mod is the Life Mod Panel. Very useful.
Cold Cash Money Kid Jul 31 @ 6:12pm
How tf do you get this to work? It used to work great, now it just makes it worst.
Omega Query Jul 27 @ 4:06pm
@dr.bonk I have the same thing going on, except... I simply have them all downloaded; Real CSM, because it doesn't open natively as you can simply spawn its editor and it activates Real CSM when you WANT it, rather than being forced. Source Shadows, my default choice as it simply upgrades the default shadows to be even better than simple vanilla ones. Blend Light and Soft Lamps; both do extremely similar things, but one is more homebrewed than the other and is usually capable of being captured via poster without any of the extra steps needed for Soft Lamps. HOWEVER, Soft Lamps become much more accessible when combined with the 4k screenshot taker. It has built in options to use Anti-aliasing via Super-DOF with the click of a button when taking high-resolution screenshots, AND has a nifty option to manually set your FOV for images rather than having to mess with it via right-click like the normal camera.

Material decals/rendershadow has bad reference count -164 when being bound (x2)
BigDoinks Jul 10 @ 3:34am
I am getting crashes when using..
NyanCatGamer02 Jul 9 @ 3:12pm
the fps can be fixed with a few commands:
r_flashlightdepthres 512;
r_projectedtexture_filter 0.2;
mat_slopescaledepthbias_shadowmap 2;
mat_depthbias_shadowmap 0.000005;
dinguscool4 Jul 6 @ 2:00am

@potatogaming I can't say for blue, but I can safely assume that he looked into much of the lua scripting already available in regards to configuring the Source Engine's shadows, what goes into it, and simply decided to try and make things more configurable regarding the shadows, lighting, etc. Which he's done so successfully in my opinion.
Potato Gaming Jun 8 @ 2:43pm
How the hell did you make this mod resolutionblue?

@cayama0811 I'm not sure, but try playing with Life Mod alongside the Source Shadows addon, both have options to tweak the shading and such inside the game and I feel they actually work well together for my own purposes. I'm also fairly certain there's settings for multiple shadow origins being cast onto a single object, but I could very well be wrong.
✪PyroLover May 23 @ 6:29am
its possible to have multiple shadows on the same object? it kinda looks weird when u have a lot of lights around u but theres only one that produces shadow so yeah
PManPlays44 May 20 @ 9:41am
@ResolutionBlue Got it, thanks.
ResolutionBlue  [author] May 19 @ 10:47am
@PManPlays44, CSM is by all means a more realistic and complicated addon. CSM renders actual real time shadows on everything, but this is also why it's so taxing. If you want a more permanent solution to making shadows a bit better, Source Shadows is a more optimal option.
