Old vs New repair system comparison
The old version:
  • Uses traditional fixing scripts
  • Repairs are done standing in place
  • All repairs take the same amount of time to complete
  • No sounds or different animations during the repairs
  • Welding repairs don't require eye protection
  • Things like needles or scissors can't used in repairs without being consumed
  • Tools aren't equipped before starting a repair
  • Tools don't degrade or lose sharpness
  • Only supports explicit global items and can't use tags
  • Can only have a single global item
  • Can't repair parts that don't have a physical item

The new version:
  • Uses Lua
  • Character walks to the location of the part being repaired
  • Different repairs take a different account of time to complete
  • Different animations and sounds are used for repairs
  • Welding repairs require eye protection
  • Things like needles or scissors can used in repairs without being consumed
  • Tools are equipped before starting a repair
  • Tools can degrade or lose sharpness after repairs depending on your maintenance level
  • Supports tags so things like different kinds of thread or screwdrivers can be used in repairs
  • Supports multiple global items so a needle, thread, and scissors may be needed for some seat repairs for example.
  • Supports repairs on parts that don't have a physical item or itemType like some KI5 trunks for example

The old repair system can still be enabled in the sandbox settings if you prefer it for some reason

Great. Will I be able to just launch my saved game? Do i need to alter the sandbox setting what will it default to? Thanks for the great work.

It should default to the new system. If it doesn't for some reason, just disable the "Old Repair System" sandbox option and restart the game
