Technically this is already done; one can playback SMH keyframes in Ragdoll Puppeteer separately from keyframes on the SMH timeline.

By “retargeting SMH animations”, I mean giving one model the ability to *properly* play SMH animations meant for another model, like how it’s done with model sequences. By the time I made the post, I haven’t figured that out yet (See the Bone maps chapter of the Ragdoll Puppeteer: Retargeting video)

Of course, RP2 will definitely fix this feature when it’s released. If not, I’ve already thought of one way to fix it pretty soon, so SMH retargeting may be used in RP1 :)

In your post you said "implementation to retarget SMH animations", does that mean in RP2 we'll be able to have different keyframes in SMH play different animations?

Not yet. I have a feature like this planned, but that would probably come around in a new version of this addon: see this section of my post for more details

Once I develop this feature (into Ragdoll Puppeteer 2), I'll make an official announcement about it :steamthumbsup:

Is there a way to make ragdolls keep playing their selected animations? Because when I animated a ragdoll and tryed to animate another one, the previous ragdoll just stopped moving totally. I want to have many ragdolls playing the animations I want to make a scene.

Find the “Show puppeteer” option in the settings section in the tool’s c menu, and uncheck it to hide the puppeteer (the blue outline)

Are you referring to the ragdoll? If the play button is still pressed in this tool’s C menu, then the ragdoll will always follow the movement of the puppeteer: they can’t be moved until you stop the animation
If you’re trying to move the puppeteer (the blue ghost) itself then you need to use the physgun on the platform below it. This will also move the ragdoll around and follow the puppeteer, if the play button is still clicked
Please let me know more about the problem if these did not solve it for you

(Blurred could mean the game is played at a low resolution, but correct me if that's wrong)
Frame selection as in the slider on one of the timelines? If you're referring to that, my guess is that the frame selection might be beyond the limits of the timeline: you can get it back by just simply clicking on the timeline
Please show me an image of what you're seeing (or describe it if that's not possible), so I can further look into it

Hello all, I've recently finished up a prototype for a new retargeting feature for Ragdoll Puppeteer. Similar to Animated Props' remapping feature, this new feature will allow you to play sequence animations from any puppeteer's model onto the puppet of your choice, depending on if the tool has a way to convert between the puppeteer's skeleton to the puppet's. Sequence animations are supported for now; I may do retargeting for SMH animations at a later point

If you want to test this feature before release, visit the remapping branch [github.com] in the source code, click the green "Code <>", click Download Zip, and drop the folder from that zip into your addons folder. You may need to track this branch and redownload this file to get the latest updates and fixes

Interesting application. The dev branch I posted earlier has the ability to puppeteer camera animations directly; in this way, you can mocap your camera in another software (for those Type 5 Demos, rig something irl that could attach a phone camera to your head) and import the animation into the camera model

this seems like it would be useful for any mod trying to recreate Type 5 Demos from Interloper. just mocap some animations and set 'em over a ragdoll, put a camera at the head and boom.

Hello all. Once again, I have made a branch [github.com] to help encourage testing of some new features before I release them onto the workshop. Click the green "<> Code" button, click "Download Zip", and extract the folder into your addons folder to test. You can view the list of changes here [github.com].

Of course, I will be adding new features, so the list will update from time-to-time to include new bug fixes or features. I would appreciate your time in testing these features before they are released to the workshop

@zelatur You copy sequences from NPCs and paste them into a model, if the model has the sequence. HL2 citizens do not have L4D sequences, so it's expected that the copy-and-paste operation would fail there. I might rework that copy and paste feature in the future, since it's quite restricted to NPCs in general. As for having HL2 citizens with L4D sequences, something like this would require a bone remapping feature, similar to Animated Props' remapping; I also might work on this in the future

using other models animations doesnt work, tried to use l4d animations on hl2 citizen model and it not worked, all you have to do is press R on model you want borrow animations from right? in my case didnt worked, or maybe im doing something wrong? ... other than that great tool, you can finally port animations to SMH and record them, it wasnt possible with different animation tools, it didnt detect ragdoll, but with this tool you can!

@bimbim Ragdoll Puppeteer looks through the root 'smh' folder (located in garrysmod/data/smh) and any other folder in the root for animation files. SMH saves its animations in the root folder. You can test this by saving one keyframe of a kleiner model; then, puppeteer the kleiner model, switch to the 'Stop Motion Helper' source, and find the name of the animation file that you saved

I may sound dumb, but how do i import the smh animations i made into the Ragdoll Puppeteer directory, in your video, you had some sort of folder where you keep your animations, but when i try to go to SMH Helper, it only shows the text, there is no selection were you can make your own folder, or how you can import that smh animation to your ragdoll.

Hey all, if you guys happen to be using the latest version of SMH [github.com] on Github, I've made a branch [github.com] that loads these saves. This fixes an issue related to the error message "attempt to index local 'prevFrame' (a nil value)." Note that the latest version of SMH is WIP, so this branch may be volatile to these changes. Once a newer version of SMH gets published to the workshop, I will incorporate the new SMH saves into this tool
