please make the tapes work with animated arms radio
Newdly 11
@mylapqn312 Thank you, that response is awesome. I've decided to keep them as chorus book songs, just to give the chorus book a few more options. can be found on my workshop

Thank you for the mod.
TLDR: covers are mostly note sheets, originals are mostly cassettes, but you can do whatever you like.
@Newdly - this is an interesting one, sorry for the long reply :D

My philosophy has always been to try and separate the voice from the instrument as much as possible, even using software.
But if that's not possible, focus on what's the context of the song:

if it's an "amateur cover" or a song that people would actually sing casually, it goes in the chorus book even if it's not "pure".

Same for instruments - a song that you could fully enjoy with just a guitar, for example, goes in the guitar even if there's a bit of percussion in the background. Again, I would always try to find an "amateur cover" played on just that instrument.

If it's the actual original recording from the artist, or a more complex rendition that you would mostly hear on the radio, it goes on a cassette.

But in any case, this is just what I use to determine what the official mod's song notes are gonna be - you can put it anywhere you want in your mod :D

@Snubby @mylapqn312

Chorus book songs that are mostly vocals but also have a single instrument in the background;
should i make them cassettes instead? What do you think?
Snubby 11
If your songs are already in .OGG then no, that step is not necessary, although it is recommended for filesize compression ; Barotrauma does not do well with heavy mods.

And that contentpackage should wrap all but the first line of that XML (which should be named filelist.xml, maybe Barotrauma renamed it in an update ?), so you can't miss it.
if my songs are all ready in ogg format do i still gotta run the "./ffmpeg.exe -y -i out.ogg -c:a libvorbis -ab 32k -ar 11025 radio-out.ogg" command? also the guide says to write "<Item file="%ModDir%/PATHTOYOURFILE.xml" inside of "<contentpackage></contentpackage>" in the files.xml but how do i know where "<contentpackage></contentpackage>" is inside of that xml?
We need a Youtube video on how to do this.
Snubby 10
Mcuh obliged !
Just wanna say, thank you Snubby for being so helpful in the comment section! ^^ I don't always have time to check the comments and I'm really glad that players can get fast and helpful replies thanks to you <3
Snubby 10
It has to be wired and enabled like other electrical components
You can't play music from the cassette player when it's on a wall?
Destroyanad 10
The github guide was very helpful, it allowed me to upload custom songs for my and my friends!
Snubby 10
You really should check for yourself before asking the mod makers to put in the effort on your behalf you know... You can literally turn off Soundproof walls at any time in its settings. Just see for yourself
why does the boombox produce such low quality sound? does that have to do with soundproof walls 2.0?
@Apollo Brando - Thank you, added :)
Apollo Brando 8
Hey, we've had our addon out for a while now, we would be glad if you could also add this to the list! https://steamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3070076932
Thank you!
Thank you! Added to the list :)
Plaski 5

Maybe if we annoy the devs of the game for long enough, they will consider it :D
Yeah, unfortunately a sound slider is impossible to implement in a Barotrauma mod. The only solution would be to release different versions of this mod where the sound files are louder / quieter, but that would be absolute hell for maintenance and multiplayer / synchronisation :(
OOF. Read some of your earlier comments on the game's sound design limitations. That sucks! I would love to see a sound rework of this game at some point. It's really close to perfection.
It's a little too loud for some of my crew. Any chance we could get a separate sound slider for the different effects? If it's tied to the sound effect volume, then that means muting guns, creature noises, etc. if one wants to mute the music. Hope this isn't too much to ask!
The music volume is dictated by your setting for the sound effects volume. Perhaps you have it set really low?
xxx_420_Bad_Boy [Wizard_Cum] 5 月 13 日 下午 1:26
It's very, very quiet for me and not sure why.
Gipka 4
Nvm, Snubby was right. Forgot to use a wrench :steamfacepalm:
Snubby 4
Are you sure you didn't simply attach it to a wall ? You need to remove it with a wrench, and give it a signal with wires to make it play.
Could be related to the new update... is it throwing any errors?
Gipka 4
Cassette player once put down cannot be picked back up, also does not play music
Sounds great! Thanks for contributing
Snubby 3
I'm working on an add-on that will allow players to put cassettes in without picking up the player, and add a shouldered version so you don't place it down so easily. I'll put it up on the github once it's ready, in case you'd like to just merge it in !
Thank you! Nice suggestion :)
Michael Miceli 3
Country Roads would make a great addition. I am impressed with the list of some of these songs. Didnt expect some of them
Also this would require re-encoding all the actual audio files to mono channel, and all add-on authors would need to do the same for proper compatibility.
That being said, if there's significant support for this change, I can look at implementing it!
To be clear, making the sounds have shorter range is indeed possible just fine - but due to quirks with this game's sound system, it has the significant tradeoff that all sounds would become directional and you'd only ever hear them in exclusively one ear (depending on where the sound is coming from), which is great for locating mudraptor growls but imo gets pretty annoying with music.
People I tested this with preferred having the music in both ears rather than having it short ranged. Maintaining a separate version of the mod with directional sounds would of course be possible, but it's a solution I'd rather avoid.
I hope this at least clarifies why things work the way they do. Frankly the best solution would be if the devs of Barotrauma just updated the game to better support stereo sounds - but I doubt that's gonna happen :D
Azi Karnage 2
Default range shouldnt be the whole level, atleast vanilla musical items certainly arent
Snubby 2
unfortunely the range of audio is determinted per song, not by the instrument. So I really doubt there would be such a mod, because you would have to override every song item, and any mod would still use the default range probably...
Azi Karnage 2
Is there a version of this with shorter range, I am looking for music mods for my map but you can hear someone playing guitar from a mile off with this one which sucks because this is otherwise the best music mod
Believe me, we tried this in every possible way a few versions back... Barotrauma handles detach input keys kinda confusingly, and switching them around always results in a bug where you can't rewire it as a result :/
Snubby 2
Probably best to set the detach speed to something very fast, or make it detachable by hand, or make the attaching key E rather than left click...
the only thing i dislike is that you can accidently weld the boombox on the sub and have to screw it loose again, otherwise, we had a blast with all the music stuff, realy nice stuff man.
@horolhorolhorol first find a cassette for it (see a few comments below, they're acquired the same way as music sheets), instert it into the cassette player, and just hold the player in your hand or drop it on the ground! It will play automatically
How can I use cassette player?
Thank you, added to description!
Cowabunga 1
I've added an addon that adds lyrical and instrumental music, game radio stations, radio theater, and sound affects https://steamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3405646978&searchtext=rimm
@Lykoro I'm currently not very active in modding, so the other mod's creators would probably need to work on the compatibility. It should be just a matter of adding the relevant item data to their instruments, and potentially creating new RIMM music sheets for them if they have custom music. Hope that helps
Is it possible to make a compatiblity update with Baroverhaul's Instrument?
@Darklight720 You have to acquire a note sheet for the chorus book - they can be found in wrecks or bought in stores - then insert the note sheet into the chorus book, equip the book and hold right click/aim and left click/use simultaneously. This is the same for every music instrument apart from the cassette player.
