Just came up with an idea.

What if Megascarab Spore can, if the corpse is in the dark and there is no hive/ queen, it will instead form a Insectoid Hive ( vanilla [www.rimworldwiki.com]) or a queen ( Vanilla Faction Expanded - Insectoids )

Just a thought!

It almost definitely does, as it is now called " Better Infestations 1.4 " (So, you mioght want to consider changing the link title to say 1.4, but that's just OCD, not necessary), and was last updated on October 22, 2022

Edit: I can't believe so much time has passed! I remember being so glad to get Biotech, and it feels like just a few months. But, that's an updated for Biotech almost a year ago! Time really does fly!

Any chance for an overhaul on the Insectoid evolution chain? I was always surprised that insects didn't do 'the insect thing' as advertised... which is to say the workers gather, the hives feed them once fed bits, the queens lay eggs, the eggs hatch, etc, etc.

Do you mean Evolution Chamber? When Insectoid changes its AI to Job_AssaultColony, age check are encoded to ensure all Insectoids below 1 yrs old have an immediate birthday. I did notice when testing for 1.4 that Insectoids from cave terrain have separate Job now, so it'll only apply to Insectoids from Infestation.

Preliminary 1.4 update. Been stuck on this one for awhile because 1.4 removed custom gas types and I have no idea how to make orange gas work, but instead of stalling on this for weeks I just made Spelopede pop normal smoke instead.

Added option to give visual identifier to Insectoids with special abilities, though it's very preliminary and will only appear when they are engaged.

I agree with tMoist, a visual difference or an icon above their heads would be very useful. Also, do you plan on expanding on the abilities of other modded insects?

Ah yeah, I don't think Hulk needs my abilities as well because it's already interesting (has unique behavior, and no pain sensitivity like Chitinous Plating).

This mod has built-in compatibility with Vanilla Faction Expanded - Insectoids. New hostile Insectoid faction from this mod will use abilities as raiders. Adds Chitinous Plating to Royal Megaspider, and Dark Swarm to Gigalocust.

Damn, that was fast! Thanks, man. That seems like a good timer for it too- long enough an attentive player can guard bodies, fast enough the megascarab stampede can still spiral.

I had some time, so I pushed rudimentary update that gives 5 second casting time to Megascarab Spore. Player will be able to protect specific corpses from being consumed by killing any Megascarab that goes above it and stays still.

Would you consider adding a work time/delay to the megascarab spore implantation? In current implementation, megascarabs can instantly implant and destroy corpses, which can be a real bummer when one kills a colonist and eats the body in the next second. Giving them a small work time for implantation would give an opportunity to shoot them off before they can lay their eggs.

Thank you for the quick solution to this problem. Now the mod works both with the Royalty DLC and without it. (Had to install DLC). I assume that your mod will not end my problems. There will likely be similar problems with other mods. I still can't "make friends"> 400 mods since update 1.1, and suddenly, almost immediately - update 1.2

[UPDATE]
Insectoid Evolved is now compatible for both owners and non-owners of Royalty DLC!

Also nerfed Megascarab spores to one unit per 20kg to 25kg; this results in one less Megascarab from Spelopede and Megaspider, still serving an reinforcement function but not to ridiculous degree without access to external source of corpses.

@roman_kh Error log confirms that your are correct. Try to turn off Hivemind Network on mod settings and see if that fixes the problem. It might take few in-game hours for error to go away.

This error remains after disabling all other mods, leaving only the core and Insectoids Evolved. After re-subscribing to the mod, the error still remained. Is the reason, perhaps, in the new abilities of the insectoids that require the Royalty DLC in addition to version 1.2 of the game?

Insectoids join the psionic warfare with this update! Or to be more specific, they want to even the grounds by preventing their use.

New ability Hivemind Network is rare, but one mutant is enough to discourage use of psionics in the entire map; note that they don't stop the use of ability itself, so when push comes to shove, player could find well-placed berserk pulse to be well worth the trade-off of temporarily disabled colonist.

As is the case with all abilities, Hivemind Network can be disabled at the mod settings.

Updated for version 1.2. Added Evolution Chamber ability which bumps age of all agressive Insectoids less than 1 year old by one; the testing seemed to suggest that all Insectoids spawned from infestation are fixed with age of 12 days, so I added this as otherwise they would never get a chance to obtain my Hediffs before combat.

Creating unique abilities for Insectoid from other mods are compatibility disaster because I have no control over how they are coded, nor when & how they are updated in the future. I'll likely try adding new abilities when new Insectoid type is officially added by Tynan though.

Since there's more insectoid unit types to play around with, would you consider adding additional upgrades? i.e. ranged attacks, temporary speed boost, cannot be downed or killed until the brain or heart is destroyed, etc

Updated with preliminary VFE - Insectoids compatibility which allows their new Insect faction to use my abilities. Also Royal Megaspider can get Chitinous Plating, while Gigalocust can get Dark Swarm; this allows these two Insectoid units to serve their function better.
