Auto Digging Tool

This mod adds a Drill part to your primary weapon if you have a digging tool like a Pickaxe in your inventory.

How It Works

When you have a tool with a Drill part in your inventory (like a Pickaxe), this mod will add a Drill part to your equipped primary weapon. This means auto-explore will use your weapon to dig through walls, using the bonuses from your tool.

This mod won't do anything if you have "Burrowing Claws". It also doesn't affect your "Fist" if you have no weapon, but it does work on natural weapons like Stinger, Horns, etc.

For some weapons, the penetration bonus might be a bit low. If you don't like it, I added options so you can modify the bonuses yourself. Just remember to re-equip your weapon afterwards.
A good start would be 40 for the penetration bonus, or you can just reduce the number of hits required.

Mappings/Controls

  • Enable/Disable Mod
    • A hotkey to disable/enable the mod, useful if you want to toggle between demolishing NPC homes or not. By Default, it's unmapped; you have to add a key mapping for this function. (Added after I felt bad for the poor farmers and what my pickaxe/digging tool did to their fences)

Options

  • Enable Auto DiggingTool Mod
    • Enables/disables the Auto DiggingTool mod. (You can use key mapping for this. I decided to add that to options as well.)
  • Prevent Part Attachment (Bad)
    • If you enable this, the mod won't add a drill part to your weapon. Digging will still technically work, but it will be very bad. You shouldn't use this option.
  • Enable Penetration Bonus
    • If enabled, you can set a custom penetration bonus for the Auto Digging Tool.
  • Penetration Bonus (Re-equipping required)
    • Sets the penetration bonus value when enabled. A good start is 40. Higher is better.
  • Enable Hits Required
    • If enabled, you can set a custom number of hits required to dig through walls.
  • Hits Required (Re-equipping required)
    • Sets the number of hits required when enabled. Lower is better.

Uninstall

The mod is safe to add or remove at any point.
If you remove the mod while you still have a Digging Tool (like a Pickaxe or Nanopneumatic jackhammer) in your inventory, you'll get an error message about a missing mod the first time you load that save.
This is normal and won't cause any problems.

Thanks, really appreciated! Yeah, figure it will be a lot worse most of the time, just makes me feel a bit better using it on pretty strict "basically vanilla" runs.

1.) shouldn't be too hard to add, have to check it out later. (Done)

2.) this was how my mod 'worked' before I uploaded it, but it won't be great without wall penetration and hits requierd bonus, you will be stuck on walls, even worse than now without modifying the penetration bonus in the options for some weapons, this how I wanted the mod to work, but wasn't successful, at least not with a good enough result.

I still added that as an option, but like I said the result is ... not good.

Adding a drill part seemed the best solution, if I didn't want to modify how AutoAct etc. work, too many mods do that, might've caused issues.

Not sure how complex this would be, but any chance you could make it only apply if the mining tool is identified? Noticed on a Dystechnia run that jackhammers still provide digging even if still showing as an artifact.

Also a weirder one, would it be possible to get a setting that just enables auto-digging/the dig ability without adding the tool stats?
