With the rising popularity of mechs, the Stino Corporation saw an opportunity it couldn't ignore. Finding an effective combat role for them proved challenging at first, but two viable concepts emerged: using mechs either as replacements for infantry to support armored vehicles in rough terrain, or as replacements for armored vehicles with infantry providing support. Though logistical applications were considered, those plans were postponed for the time being.

With the design requirements finalized, development of the AMP-2-A Acheron began. The Stino Corporation opted for a modular design, allowing its weapons to be easily swapped out. The default configuration included a combat knife and a rifle. To complement its flexibility, an advanced cockpit was designed to give pilots exceptional situational awareness in the field.
