One hour loading the game, just for it to crash at starting a new game
Seriously? And then I'm supposed to load stuff for another hour just to have acceptable loading times?

The loading time is entirely up to your pc specs, for me it takes 3 mins for both.

You can always do the workaround thats provided to reduce loading times aswell.

And since you did not give any information about the crash whatsoever, i'm going to assume you crashed when clicking enter the old world and had the d3d crash, if so check the d3d sticky post.
