I have the same exact problem. I hear the paper noise but it doesn't open.

I was confused for the longest time about this, but i think I just figured it out. My little warband doesn't seem to work the same way that it did where you could go to any tree and customize by shift clicking on a troop. You have to go over to a city or something or open the encyclopedia to shift right click on the recruit or special recruit and then left click. You can upgrade it into a tree by adding two pathways for new units in the bottom right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj_ayj6-kB0&t=246s

I honestly hate this compared to how it used to work. I wanted to change different kingdoms units but I guess that is not longer possible. If anyone could notify me of any alternatives please message me.

*Cough* Hello! I want you to carefully read the Mod configuration menu in the option. And if you could, try clicking the option saying "Full Unit Editor"

Which will then enable you to edit ANY units you want. You could also see this quite clearly on the screenshot on the mainpage on this mod.
