Garry's Mod
TARDIS (Legacy)
How to use the interior on maps that don't usually support it
You'll need the Displacement Cannon weapon mod.

Basically, the reason why the interior doesn't work is because it is missing a skybox to spawn itself in. So all it ends up in is the void.

1. Create an exit portal on the map's skybox (the place in the void where the map gets its background and skybox, you can get there by noclip). You can also put the portal on the map itself, but do note that wouldn't be that great of an idea.

2. Enter the TARDIS and use the "Teleport what you're aiming at to your exit portal" function and shoot the interior (this may take a few times depending on where the interior is).

3. You will be teleported outside of the TARDIS by protocol. If you did it right, walking back in should definately have the interior.

You can also turn off the 'double spawn trace' in options and respawn the tardis - that usually works. But for maps that don't support either option, this works I guess lol. (There's also experimental convar tardis_spawnoffset but i dont recommend touching that unelss you know what you're doing)

I tried that... lets just say I truly regret not reading the warning labels now.

Just as a note though, I think its best in Multiplayer maps that you teleport the interior to the map itself (not in the skybox) to avoid messing with the skybox and becoming a giant in the background.

I always try to hit the top of the map without going into the skybox, that's what the double trace is for. Of course it doesn't work on every map so it's an option for compatibility reasons.

The top of the map is not the skybox. the skybox is a box that contains the sky texture. or in case of a 3D skybox is a box that holds a prop or a map piece that is smaller than the normal map. So, when you say "The TARDIS interior is in/on the skybox" you're wrong, its at the top of the map.

I'm just saying that the interior is automatically at the top of working maps, but if you're in Singleplayer then it is slightly a better idea to just put it in the skybox (if its big enough, anyway) so you can keep it out of the way; because its not like you're going to be in the interior and able to see the skybox at the same time.

... unless you pilot it with 3rd person mode on. then it looks ugly.

No, the point is that the interior is only visible when there are players inside of it. Your character model becomes invisible when you control the console, so since both of these rules exist you can place the interior in the skybox and it'll look perfectly fine (BUT Singleplayer ONLY).
