Regarding getting it to work on linux, I have no idea, I've never worked with wine/proton before. If DLL highjacking doesn't work, maybe you can use some other way to injecting the DLL as the game starts? If someone does create a better modloader that works with linux, its probably also worth moving more of the loading logic over to C#. I'm not really sure why the original loader did all the C# assembly loading in C++ via the "eml_mods.ini" files.

I didn't test it myself as I'm not on linux right now, but it might work. If it doesn't you can try protontricks package which should allow to explicitly provide the dll implementations.
