This mod adds the Lastree race — Humanity’s “Guardian Devils.”

"Oh, Greg, drop the title already. From now on, I'm just a humble vendor dealing in USCM assets of dubious origin."

"Understood, 'Luciana.' According to the scenario General Keller—sorry, William—prepared, we are a prehistoric species called the 'Lastree,' rescued by USCM remnants, and have decided to be friends with and help humanity after learning from them."

"Hmm—Bill always loves the dramatic stuff. Think they'll actually buy it?"

"It'll be a lot less awkward than telling them we're USCM combatants who transferred their consciousness into demon bodies."

"Ah, fair enough. Get the broadcast ready then. Let's see if humanity is prepared to welcome their new devils."

- ABOUT THE LASTREE -

For countless beings across the galaxy, the formation of the Terrene Protectorate marked the dawn of a new era of peace and prosperity. The Protectorate’s ideals — unity among all races and hope for a brighter tomorrow — inspired millions. Yet not everyone believed such harmony would last forever. Some knew that one must always be prepared for the inevitable darkness.

Many among the old USCM and other military factions abandoned Earth after the Protectorate’s rise, claiming that its naïve idealism would only breed corruption and political decay.

Among them was the USCM Sixth Expeditionary Force, code-named “The Devil’s Own.” Unlike other defectors who simply vanished or settled elsewhere, the Devil’s Own completely disappeared — an entire armada of advanced ships, mechs, and hardened veterans gone without a trace.

Their disappearance caught the attention of fellow USCM divisions, elite bounty hunters, and even the Protectorate’s upper command. After nearly a decade of fruitless searching, the fleet was declared lost, and the Protectorate suspended all further investigation pending new evidence.

Years later, strange sightings began to surface — fragments of USCM armor, weapons, even a nearly intact mech recovered by an anonymous bounty hunter. The reports multiplied, eventually pointing toward the same desolate planet where the Devil’s Own had supposedly taken refuge.

When three USCM cruiser-class vessels suddenly entered Earth’s orbit requesting asylum, the truth finally emerged. The ships bore the insignia of the Devil’s Own, but their passengers were not human. Reptilian, demonic-looking beings disembarked — roughly one hundred in total. They called themselves the Lastree. The legend of the Devil’s Own had resurfaced at last.

Their arrival caused a stir across the Protectorate. When the Lastree’s leaders made contact, they identified themselves as descendants — or successors — of the lost USCM fleet, and expressed a desire to cooperate with the Protectorate. Despite the controversy, the Protectorate formally recognized the Lastree as an intelligent species and granted them membership.

The Lastree explained that the Devil’s Own had sought refuge on their world, but the planet’s unstable gravitational field had expanded uncontrollably, dragging the fleet to the surface and annihilating most of the survivors. Those who lived taught the Lastree about Earth’s culture and the Protectorate’s principles, leaving behind a final message — a promise of peace and alliance between their species and humanity.

Though many doubted such a noble act from hardened USCM veterans, the Protectorate chose to honor the gesture. Ironically, just a decade later, Earth itself was destroyed — and the Lastree emerged as humanity’s unlikely heirs and self-proclaimed “guardian devils.”

And so the story begins.
Earth has fallen. Humanity teeters on the edge of extinction. The galaxy trembles.
And across the stars, the Lastree move — for the Devil’s Own never vanished.
They merely changed form.
Now, they walk among us as the guardians humanity never asked for.

- TATTERED LETTER -

General William Keller writing:

First, I thank all of you who have followed me so far for your hard work. We have fought for a long time for kin who will never thank us for it. And now, I ask you for one final sacrifice for humanity: your identity as human beings.

As explained before, at zero hundred hours today, your consciousness will be transferred into a new bio-synthetic Project Nephilim body. After that, we will enter hibernation at secret hideouts across the galaxy until the Qliphoths give the signal.

Your former identity will be thoroughly wiped, and every connection to the past will be severed. And most importantly, you will no longer be human.

But every step of this procedure is absolutely necessary. Unlike our naïve brothers and sisters, we know one truth about this damned universe: there is no eternal peace. It might be the Apex fascists. It might be those Floran savages. Hell, it might even be those damn Hylotl bastards who start it. One thing is clear: war will eventually come for us, in any form, at any time.

But when that day arrives, humanity must never be defenseless. Someone must step forward and protect them. To do that, we must transcend humanity itself. And when that day comes, the enemies of humankind will realize that humanity's last regiment, its last resort, its last redemption, is waiting for them.
