Yeah, listening to the video and the CSS Famas sound, it really does seem like the beta hunting rifle sound was just a lower-pitch Famas.

it also sounds similar to something from Combat Arms, or Crossfire. But you know, those free games lift sfx from where ever they can

I actually looked in CS:S for a similar sound but didn't think to listen to any sound that wasn't a sniper rilfe lol

After looking around the files for CS:S, I'm pretty sure the sound is actually a Famas sound with a lower pitch, or sped up, or something. After all, the final hunting rifle uses a lightly modified Scout sound. Take a listen yourself:

Interesting. There's a lot of beta footage online, perhaps someone will find a clean example. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure if it's an edited sound from CS:S or not, I swear it sounds like something with a lower pitch.

I've seen that footage and I've tried my damndest to try and get the sound from it, but there's just too much background audio. I've even tried using a piece of the audio and combining it with the retail sound, and while that produced a decent result, it wasn't entirely accurate to how it sounded in the footage so I wasn't confident in releasing it. Would absolutely love to put up a beta restoration of that sound, but I just cannot find any footage of it firing without loads of BG noise. My apologies. :c

It is the rilfe sound heard in early footage of L4D1, not the one heard in the retail version of L4D1.
