This looks nice but the background gets affected way more than the foreground does, so it makes the background look out of place in comparison

it's crazy how even an older 8bit game can benefit so much from simple lighting changes.

idk what happend but when you updated the mod to v1.0.1 my lags stopped fully i am playing calamity infernum with ultra preset and literally 0 fps drops thanks for fixing smth :d

@Savage - You might have some luck if you turn off Gsync or Variable Refresh Rate in your PC Graphics settings. Also if you are using Calamity: Wrath of the Gods, that mod gives a permanent performance drop and has done so for at least a year now, was never fixed.

@Savage I'm not noticing any performance differences with recent tML updates. Are you still having this issue? Also, unfortunately full HDR rendering is required to implement a real bloom effect instead of just faking/approximating it because full HDR rendering increases the maximum brightness of a pixel during internal rendering stages. For example, without full HDR rendering, a white sheet of paper and a light bulb would be rendered with the same brightness internally, and bloom would affect both objects equally, which is incorrect. With full HDR rendering, we can now differentiate between the brightness of the sheet of paper and the light bulb with the light bulb being much brighter, and bloom would affect the light bulb more, as we would expect.

basic hdr rendering and full hdr rendering remove the background. not sure if it's my pc that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or a problem with the mod

If your screen turns all white when using the ultra settings: for some reason if you use the either of the HDR rendering options while having smooth lighting enabled, the screen will just turn completely white. So you can put the preset on ultra then either disable smooth lighting, or HDR rendering, and the game won't turn white.

how to fix insane lag spikes? previously i was playing with ultra preset and calamity infernum with stable 60 fps but then after some updates my game drops to 45 fps all the time with ultra preset without calamity, thorium, fargo souls and other huge content mods and could you add bloom on other render modes? i think that is because of the full hdr mode it takes alot of my fps when im fighting a boss but when i switch to basic full hdr mode it says more than 120 fps i tried turning off bloom but it only gave me 5 more fps

It appears that this mod has broken, in a very strange way. When you go deep enough, the borders of the window start showing the background instead of black for the blocks, and it doesn't show the level/biome background, it shows the base gradient background for time of day. Disabling and then re-enabling the mod also made it so the entire game crashed and it gave me a crash log after

for anyone having issues with a black or white screen : disable wrath of the meachines , its buggy and conflicts with other mods including this one and infernum.

worked the first time i used it and was amazing, after that i think there was an update or something and it stopped working, and changing the quality settings either made everything pure white, or disappear

I prefer to remove smooth shading and keep pixelated original look with this mod. Combination of vanilla pixelated lighting and shading make image more depth in look (smooth makes all flat, sadly). And with more enchanced lightning system it makes perfect picture. Adding light & shadows, realistic sky (realistic clouds turned off) and atmospheric torches, makes image just perfect.

@Shringe_ that appears to make the problem worse. I don't know why it would make it better because Vulkan usually doesn't have an exponential speedup of that kind, especially on proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

@RA3236 Terraria on Linux uses OpenGL by default, which is very slow. Try adding the launch option /gldevice:Vulkan to increase your fps and gpu utilization.

The last time I tried, I found that FNA didn’t support it.

can HDR rendering be made to ouput to true HDR when using a HDR compatible monitor?

@ubimauri I tried once, but it didn’t work. I don’t think FNA supports HDR output, though I read somewhere that they’re working on adding it (haven’t checked recently though).

@RA3236 Yeah unfortunately Terraria’s rendering code is quite CPU bound.

Those who have this mod lagging on good hardware, check if you have Calamity Wrath of the Gods in your mod list. This mod is laggy crap, by disabling it I got a boost from ~35 fps to stable 60 on the ultra preset.

Hi, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX 1660 SUPER on an Arch Linux system. I've noticed that my GPU utilisation is always <40% yet I have around 120FPS with this mod installed on a 165Hz display (using the High FPS Support mod as well), suggesting a CPU bottleneck. Using Feral gamemode boosts this to around 155FPS. Increasing the quality preset from Low lowers FPS but does not improve GPU utilisation, with noticeable stuttering.

Is this a limitation of the mod/game engine? I'm already using a 1920x1080p display.

@Loksi Yes, there are no issues if the Fancy Atmosphere setting and the Realistic Sky mod are both enabled. However, I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing that, since they both do some similar things.

But i tried disabling fancy atmosphere and all my other mods, however the problem is still there
Seems like the problem is on HDR rendering and full HDR rendering, both of these configurations break the game completely

I've used fancy lightning since it was recently added to the workshop, is one of my favorite mods when it comes to making the game prettier than ever
I'd appreciate if you found a way to fix this issue

(And i also noticed im not the only one reporting this glitch about the HDR rendering)

Id like to help a bit with the development if there is any room for me to do so, I have noticed a few areas that could benefit from some optimization and id like to better understand the games lighting a bit better (even if just to use locally, just like having something to play with)
