ppl saying skill books should be interesting to read probably read terms and conditions for the plot
Joe_Blo_le_Hobo 12 SEP a las 20:36
Imagine not enjoying a good book
EstusBot 28 JUN a las 12:44
Imagine reading a book for 5 hours straight. I'd be burned out and bored of it.
Commander Thicc 2 JUN a las 10:52
I don't think reading skill books should cause boredom. Are you not actively engaging your mind? Skill books should wok like magazines and other boredom relief objects. I do like how transferring items no longer makes you bored though. That's good.

Love this.
Would it be possible to make it so if you're listening to music on cassette/vinyl (ie from the True Music mod) that you also lose boredom?
RB125 2 ENE a las 20:59
@Jon Alright that's understandable! Appreciate the feedback
Jon  [autor] 31 DIC 2024 a las 13:44
@Del - Since currently this just looks for the 'action' bar, any task that makes that bar pop up above your head, it probably doesn't currently do anything for the music/radio mods. It might be better for those mods to kinda consider adding it similar to how watching Vanilla TV gives you periodic boredom drops? Or maybe a small constant lowering of boredom to partially counter the increase. Either way it might be easier for those mods to add it themselves since it can be hard to patch another mod if they don't fully expose those functions.

But thanks again everyone who loves it! I'll see about looking into setting things up for b42 if it needs a new file structure. Just not certain if it can be multi-version, I hope it might be like Rimworld in that case, but yeah. I'll post something when I figure it out!
ayden_poh 29 DIC 2024 a las 7:30
The best idea in the world, thanks!
FDCN 1654 28 DIC 2024 a las 6:03
can i join in the middle of the game?
RB125 26 DIC 2024 a las 10:25
Could listening to (car)radio stations affect boredom too?

Probably has been mentioned before, now it has been again, thanks for this neat mod
Not Sure 24 DIC 2024 a las 18:09
still speaking of b41 here, but after playing for awhile with a character stuck on 50% stress, it appears that the happiness uptick from this mod when you're below 25% unhappiness and not bored is outpaced by the unhappiness tick from the stress. which i think is probably appropriate.
Loot Bukkake 20 DIC 2024 a las 10:36
I'm still testing it out to make sure it is actually working, but it seems that all that may be necessary to update this is rebuilding the file structure. Hopefully this helps you bring it to B42!
Wraith 19 DIC 2024 a las 8:54
Any plans for 42?
Not Sure 18 DIC 2024 a las 15:21
alright. i might test it out. I've got a smoker character in a low-loot world and i can't find cancer sticks for him, so his stress is always 50%. So if the stress outpaces the not-bored, it would be a waste of happiness reduction items to nudge it below 25% all the time. I'll see if i can figure it out just from gameplay.
Jon  [autor] 18 DIC 2024 a las 15:01
Uhh, it makes sense, but I don't know the actual values cause I didn't realize that was a thing. It PROBABLY shouldn't outpace it, or at least I wouldn't want it to, since it's supposed to be when you are otherwise doing fine and dandy that it makes you happier again.
Not Sure 18 DIC 2024 a las 7:43
@ Jon: do you know if the "not-bored-happiness-uptick (so long as unhappiness is less than 25)" from your mod out-paces or is out-paced by the 50% stress vanilla happiness downtick?

did that question make sense?
Stranger Fengs 7 DIC 2024 a las 11:42
Here I was thinking you were just Bored and started making Mod Tweaks..
But they actually help with boredom hehe
Bong Water 6 DIC 2024 a las 3:06
this might just be a dumb question, but does this affect the true music mod at all? is that possible? lmao it would be great to be able to give my charater tunes to calm tf down or something
Jon  [autor] 21 OCT 2024 a las 16:47
Yeah, it should be fine to add to an existing game!
☣ KeXe5 ☢ 21 OCT 2024 a las 6:56
Can i add this mod on an existing SP game, or i have to start over? Constantly getting bored while i keep doing things inside my house seems so unrealistic to me, so i want to give this mod a try...
Adambaked 25 AGO 2024 a las 15:14
legit just cant find the mod in modlist:steambored:
Jamison 8 AGO 2024 a las 3:00
Will definitely give this a try. I've been using "Reading is not boring" up until now for skill books, but the overall boredom management is a bit annoying in vanilla.

Number1NoPickle 27 JUN 2024 a las 13:57
It doesnt work for me :( What am I doing wrong?
Jon  [autor] 21 JUN 2024 a las 18:32
Oh, sure! Most of the code anyway is modeled after the vanilla boredom code in the base game, so if you also wanna look at that, I could probably figure out which class I found it all in and you can use a decompiler yourself to look at it all. Though again this mod's code would look awfully similar, so it might not be required :P
RamosRealM 21 JUN 2024 a las 13:12
Hi Jon! Could I use a few snippets of your code for my own traits mod? Im working on a trait that makes it unable to get bored indoors but gets anxious and panicked out side, so you can probably see where this is going...
caralhysson 15 JUN 2024 a las 0:18
This has always been my favorite mod, I love staying at the base organizing things, sewing clothes, eating and more. I don't know why, but I noticed that I'm starting to get bored and sad in a way I never used to... I think maybe there's some incompatibility with a mod I use or it might not be working... Could anyone help? Thanks!!
Saltamontes 5 JUN 2024 a las 1:54
So happy with this mod! thank you!

I've always found it incredibly frustrating that you gain boredom when you are rearranging furniture or sorting items etc. It just doesn't make a lick of sense.
R3Ap3R BuNnY 11 ABR 2024 a las 2:16
so that how it works. okay, i'll try it again. thanks for the clarification
meolan 10 ABR 2024 a las 10:06
Can't sit around all day....
meolan 10 ABR 2024 a las 10:05
It took me a bit to figure out how to use it. I was under the impression that doing certain tasks would just reset it, but that's not how it works. Doing the tasks just lowers it so you can sit around for half a day and do two seconds of work and have it all better.

It's actually fairly well balanced, I like it.

Good work author. :)
Jon  [autor] 10 ABR 2024 a las 1:56
It doesn't remove boredom entirely, so make sure you are managing it still. It's biggest change is to counter some of the boredom gain if you are spending time organizing loot. This doesn't work if you see the moodle to the right of the screen, since I felt that'd be too strong. Boredom is always gaining in the background if you are indoors but doesn't show until it's a quarter full or so.
R3Ap3R BuNnY 9 ABR 2024 a las 21:01
this is not working for me. My character becomes bored and then sad and depressed. Anyone can help me?
Butthole Police 1 ABR 2024 a las 11:10
I like the additions, i just feel like its too strong. My character is rarely bored anymore, so I rarely ever get the chance to use the new items! I would love the ability to change the boredom rates in world settings (or mod settings) to make it a bit harder
meolan 29 MAR 2024 a las 15:56
I'm finding that this doesn't seem to be working. Anyone else having issues?
STAK-Maveo 17 MAR 2024 a las 18:02
Really enjoyed this mod, it makes my games more interesting.
thecarvalhogamer 8 MAR 2024 a las 16:53
mods que deveriam ser vanilla.

Mods que deberían ser vanilla.
randomhan 5 DIC 2023 a las 15:15
its overpowered needs nerfing
Claytonaitor 28 NOV 2023 a las 18:13
This mod is great however it needs tweaking, my character is never bored anymore.
Perhaps instead of decreasing boredom with timed actions, it just does not increase while you are keeping busy?

Also, if not too complicated to do, have repeating the same action (or action type) increase boredom could add to the realism/balance of this mod.

Would be great if these became options in some mod settings
xKilroyx 24 NOV 2023 a las 9:34
Great mod! Makes no sense to be bored when You are actively doing something. subbed.
Zing 17 NOV 2023 a las 2:32
Thanks for the mod, but I find it a little too powerful. Since installing it, my character experienced boredom only once.
Telos 2 NOV 2023 a las 21:35
@jon Thank you for your mod, it's become a staple on our server :)

Would you be open to adding boredom reduction when around campfires, fireplaces and antique ovens? (I don't know anybody who gets bored around a fire)
Swedin 2 NOV 2023 a las 8:28
the best way maintain depression ingame are anti depresants and alcohol. if you found a plastic cup you can turn 1 bottle into 12 shots of happiness by drinking 1/2 from the cup. but i recommed doing that before going to sleep because alcohol makes you tired
Autumn 1 NOV 2023 a las 13:50
@grabnar I mean, that's something that actually happens. The lack of light and time outdoors during winter actually leads to seasonal rises in depression, and it's not like you can just look outside on a cold day and think "yeah, I'm actually way less bored solely because I'm not outside". Stock up on books or something for winter like you would in real life.
Jon  [autor] 12 OCT 2023 a las 18:49
That's good to know about, thank you! And yeah, I figured Boredom had to be added for a reason like that, though personally I much prefer systems that reward the player for doing something, instead of penalizing.
jtgibson 12 OCT 2023 a las 9:32
@grabnar, @Jon: getClimateManager():getAirMassTemperature() (colon important) polls a cached value that is assigned by the every-ten-minute update in the vanilla game, and is very fast. It will yield the external air temperature regardless of where you are.

Boredom was definitely added to steer gameplay. It's far too easy in games like this to turtle up, which ends up boring the player and making them think the game isn't very good. Same basic principle behind the absurdly fast hunger timer in original roguelike games: push the player into danger faster so that they find the game more entertaining and thrilling.
Condasoft 24 SEP 2023 a las 15:09
I ended up clinically depressed by the amount of time i spent idling at base.
