Is there any reason (besides maybe an error on install) that this would crash the game? It was my first time ever playing period, but a friend had instructed me to install this and I'd get maybe 5 minutes of playability before it locked up on me.

You should remove Weapon Stats and Legendary tooltips, as they are incompatible with Frackin Universe and make firearms unusable.
