Introduction
In this guide you will learn how to customize / disable the spellcheck and autofill features of the Steam Client.

You don't need to edit any files, this can all be done with a graphical UI in the Steam Client.

These features are provided by the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF for short), so the described settings are similar to the actual Chrome / Chromium browser.
Spellcheck
  1. Start any game (you need to use the in-game browser)
  2. Open the web browser on the Steam overlay

  3. Go to this URL:
    chrome://settings/languages

  4. Turn off all languages listed under Spell check

This will also turn off Check for spelling errors when you type text on web pages

  5. Alternatively, you can customize the spell check to suit your needs:
Only enable the languages you regularly use and disable all others.

You can add new languages by clicking Add languages in the top right corner.
Autofill
  1. Start any game (you need to use the in-game browser)
  2. Open the web browser on the Steam overlay

  3. Go to
    chrome://settings/payments
and turn off Save and fill payment methods

  4. Go to
    chrome://settings/addresses
and turn off Save and fill addresses

Hi,

Thanks for this, just used it to turn spell checking back on, after the Steam update today turned it off.

Note this bit can be done easier:

1. Start any game (you need to use the in-game browser)
2. Open the web browser on the Steam overlay

Instead something like:
1. In Steam, look for any visible URL ( https://etc) - Including at the top of this guide).
2. Right click the URL and select 'Open link in new tab' this creates a new browser window.

Cheers.
