The original guide was written for Sven Co-op, which is based on Goldsrc. This guide is helpful for Half-Life too because it is based on Goldsrc too, of cource.


Hi, all Half-Life enjoyers.

You might have seen some players used non-default sprays like the one below. To use your own sprays, you have to replace the spray file, namely tempedecal.wad.
The original work[www.irasutoya.com]is by Irasutoya (いらすとや).

To this end, I made the image spray converter[tempdecal-conv.pages.dev], which runs on your browser. You can create your own spray just by drag and drop an image. You will get your own custom spray in a sec.

Next, you have to replace <Game Folder>\valve\tempdecal.wad with the new one (to open <Game Folder>, go to Steam Library, right click the game, then select Manage > Browse local files). You should set tempdecal.wad Read-only to keep it from being overwritten. Open Properties of tempdecal.wad, check Read-only, then click OK.

That's it. Happy spraying!


You can produce a shaper image especially for pixel art by enabling point resampling option. The comparison of without and with the option is below (left is w/o, right is w/). It may not be good for non-pixel art images.

Also, you have to uncheck "Enable texture filtering" to get sharper effect.

The converter runs on your web browser. It does not upload image data to the server. It works on macOS and Linux too.
