Only thing Steam sees (unless it's a VAC protected game)is whether or not an executable is running or not and they should not be seeing anything else. How the heck are you suggesting Valve to monitor what a Steam user is doing? Are you suggesting Valve spy on them by taking over their web camera on their computer? You know that's illegal.

It would be really nice if when checking your friends list you could see what they were doing & if they were active. For instance, some of my friends just leave 7 Days To Die open to the main menu when they aren't on & on the mobile app I can't see that of the "zzz" next to them. It's very frustrating.

Being afk (no mouse movements or KB presses for 5 min) will snooze you to others. There is no way to get around that.

As for the other request, to see what they are doing in X game, that is already a feature a game developer can add to their game.

The Chat app has this feature. The Mobile Authenticator does not since it no longer has the Friends and Chat features within it.

But it does have friends & chat functions...

You can not send messages through the friends list in the mobile authenticator. That was stripped out in 2019 when they released the Chat app.

Umm, I don't know what an authenticator is, but the steam app on my android does show if my friends are playing, just not details like they're in game or sitting in the main menu. It also has chat function.
