rpg/action rpg where I feel like I am gaming the system?
this is a bit hard to explain but here me out.
in normal rpgs you kinda progress and then you get just strong enough to make the next level of enemy a threat and you do this till the game is over.

then there are game where you can stack multipliers in ways that devs clearly never intended but also never intervened to stop. im looking for a fun game that rewards me for playing the game and understanding the system, not just going along the dev expected and intended path.

diablo style games tend to have this most often, but im looking for other rpgs or arpgs that may share the same progression style where built right I am clearly a god that walks amongst men, gameplay style or type don't matter to me.

I am specifically looking in the last few years, but if you think there is a hidden gem that I may have overlooked that's older I am all ears.

Some of the early Baldur's gate games can be like that, if you pick the right stats. Also same with Fallout 1 and 2. Most modern games try to avoid this as alot of people considering it cheating in a way. But the early CRPG's i mentioned above were basically some of the earliest RPGS on pc. Try them.

Probably some of the clone ones too made before 2001 probably would do it too. Like the first divinity game probably .

that actually kind of is what i'm looking for, games where you can take the systems given to you and make yourself a near god, the alchemy and magic system from elder scrolls I think up to skyrim definitely count for it, but they get weaker with each rendition of the game.

how is neverwinter nights, my impression was it was effectively an engine to make dnd campaigns digital and you got small modules... didn't someone effectively make an mmo inside of it as well.

kind of, the balders gate games as well as fallout are more about min maxing knowing what you are going to encounter, the first balders gate game I believe has a level 9 cap, 2 had an exp cap that would put you around 20 and throne of baal doubled that to 40, so you are a literal god (or at least demi god) in throne of baal

In regards to my suggestion, NWN is probably the best implementation of D&D in pc gaming (sorry BG3). Based on D&D 3.5 edition, its pretty easy to make a broken character that just rolls through almost any situation in various ways.

The game itself is 3 main campaigns, several community ones, some "premium" dlcs of varying quality, and an editor to make your own modules.

Online Persistent Worlds can turn it into a psudo-MMO of sorts.

Also the modding community is pretty on point, with the Community Expansion pack adding a ton of content, and pretty much all the game files of relevance can be edited to add new classes, spells, abilities, equipment, art resources, etc.

It's over 20 years old, but probably my favorite game experience of all time. I wish modern Bioware could still make games like this...

the fear & hunger games are designed in such a way where you are never truly overpowered, even with the best equipments/spells because you can still easily lose everything very fast. however the best builds are very, VERY strong and do tend to ignore some aspects of the game because of how ludicrously strong they are.

Yes, i remember using it to fly across the map with it. Fun times. It was before they made that free dlc plugin for the teleporters.

Once your over level 60 in chorno trigger, your basically unkillable. Maybe hard version lavos might be able to kill you, but that is about it.
