Game reviews must be trustworthy for the buyer and not misleading.
Rumor has it that several Discord groups have formed to campaign against Escape from Tarkov. It's suspected that many people are buying the game solely to leave a bad review and then demand a refund. This would be bad for both Steam and the buyer, and it absolutely needs to be prevented. A simple solution would be to only allow reviews after 10 hours of gameplay. Steam would benefit, and so would the buyer... Take care

Man. I know youre worried about reviews being skewed toward negative. But, your suggestion would cause the exact same problem but in the other direction. You don't fix something by breaking it another way.

The refund window is 2 hrs. Do you seriously think people are going to forfeit their refund just for a negative review for a game they don't really like or that isn't working right for them?

If they buy the game just to leave a bad review and refund it, that is one way to abuse the refund sytem and will most likely end in accounts getting locked.

If only it were that simple, but you can submit a review and get a refund after just 5 minutes. In a game like Tarkov, a review after 5 minutes can only be unreliable. But many will overlook this and only focus on the overall rating.

You can easily bypass this by simply creating a new account, buying the game, and then having it banned; they shouldn't care.

OP suggests a severe anti-consumer thing. Choosing between refund or reviews.

10 hours for a review? Why would I need to play that long to leave a review? If I think a game is bad after 30 minutes, that's my prerogative.

Playtime hours on Steam are inconsistent. They don't remove idling, they don't count offline hours. Plus people give an idiotic worth to playtime stats to begin with. Doesn't matter, the substance of the review is what matters.

I also PREFER negative reviews with short playtime, preferably of people who refund it. I want to know why people stop playing. So you essentially want to remove the most useful subset of reviews for me. So, NO!

So, what is it, OP. Which game you like got reviews you don't like? Or are you a dev?
may well do it myself, having played the game extensively already. Steam customers deserve the right to know how absolutely garbage the game is before they buy.

This again? This is a bad idea. Some games take around 2 hours or less to 100%, even less to playthrough for the first time.

I don’t think Steam is going to make special review requirements for one game.

Nonsense idea.

I dont need or expect to be punished for whatever is going on with that BS game coming to Steam.

I dont like a game in 10 minutes and it actually annoys me enough? I leave a negative review and refund it. I dont care about the reputation of some random game and my "rights" should never be impacted by one-off bs like this.

In short, ♥♥♥♥ that game. This is not only a terrible idea, its a terrible reason for an idea.

not trying to dismiss your concern

but this is something that has been happening for years

the stores do their best to find and remove these types of reviews

either completely or from the overall scoring

as for making me play 10 hours before being able to review

no thank you

i have games that i could not get through the first half hour because they are so boring

i am not going to slog through 9.5 more just to tell people what i think

Your view is completely vulgar, sorry to say! But this isn't about honest reviews submitted within 30 minutes, but about DELIBERATE MANIPULATION for negative reasons. Steam is a business, and buyers shouldn't be misled, not because Steam doesn't care, but because buyers have found a loophole to generate negative headlines. This constitutes abuse, and it's neither allowed in a physical store nor should it be allowed virtually.

This would protect extremely bad or broken games from being reviewed by genuine users that would be forced to chose between telling the truth about the game or losing the money they paid for crap.

First, ask Steam Support if your intention to request a 100% refund is permitted.

Sounds awful, most people with the ability to think can look at a reviewers playtime and decide if they want to take the review seriously or not. I think some people put way to much stock in how important steam reviews are, most people who want to know what a game plays like just go to YouTube so they can see gameplay alongside the reviewers opinion.

i should not face such draconian measures because of their abuse

as i already said

this is not new

review manipulation has been fought for a long time now

and there are measures in place to take care of what you are worried about

This helps prevent malicious intent. If I really don't like a game and request a refund after two hours, I don't leave a review. Because I know perfectly well that a review wouldn't be accurate for everyone, especially for a game that requires hundreds of hours just to get started.
