Unlinking Epic Account
I know this is a dumb question and everything I am reading is "no", but in the past I linked one of my epic accounts to this steam account. I have bought the game "Ready or Not" and want to play it cross plat with a friend. I was trying to link my new epic account to this steam account, but it was telling me to input the email used for epic. I have since reached out to Epic support to help recover the old email, but turns out that there is "nothing that they can do" even if they escalate the situation. so basically my steam account is linked to a dud epic one. is there anyway that I can unlike it from here and or is there a work around so I am able to play this game with my friend cross plat?

No, as the linking to your steam account is on epic's side. Nothing steam can do.
The link is on epic's end. Sorry

is there any possible work around? or am I just not going to be able to play any games cross plat if it requires connecting to epic games?

Any account links with your Steam account is done on the other end.
So you need to unlink from the old Epic account first.

And if you don't know what email you used......is it really your account? Because if Epic support could not help, then that means you failed to prove it was your account most likely.

You should write down or somehow store your login info to remind you what it is for each account.

Epic literally told me they were able to see my account that was linked to this steam account, but they can't provide me with any info (display name, email, or even unlink it themselves due to it being an inactive account) i asked if i could escalate it to someone who would help and they said, "we are all trained the same way so i wouldn't get my hopes up"

I linked it a while ago to try to play rocket league after it was removed from the store. I used a throw away email so it didn't override my current one. then my pc got wiped so I could enable safe mode to play battlefield. even so, i don't even know if that email was saved either.

Epic can not help you to recover your epic account info used. You should have this info. Epic can not give the info to you.. You must provide the matching info.

Don't loose email accounts or log in info for websites.

Can't he just family share his library to an alt account and play there?

While they can "see" the link. They still need you to prove you are the owner of the epic account. Epic has no way to know if it's really you beyond that.
