Many bots (in thousands) are invading group chats, DM members ads and leave
So a lot of groups have been invaded by bot accounts recently, people are getting DMed with images that promoting suspicious websites.

Group chat is barely usable, as chats are quickly flushed by joining messages. And if you reopen the chat window, it loads joining message very slowly, you may have to wait several minutes until it start loading chat messages.

It happens time to time, each wave seems to have different bot pattern (name & avatar). It's almost impossible to ban them one by one.

One of group in which I'm a moderator, its owner seems AFKed for a very long time, so I can't have the group changed to restricted mode either.

Some screenshots I took days ago (it's still happening today):

Image 1 showing it happens almost at "1 bot per second" speed.

Image 2 showing the bot number stacks up to thousands. It takes a lot of time to load.

Hope devs will see this post and come up with updates soon that address this problem... (option to turn off DM from group chats, hide joining messages, etc)

Just report the account for suspicious links.
Those accounts are most likely compromised accounts that do not actually belong to the person using it.
Your best bet is messaging Steam Support about this and explaining everything in excruciating detail.
I highly doubt any developers are reading these forums.

They've been adamantly slow and inconsistent to respond to reports. Have reported a number of spambot accounts myself and they're still around weeks later. I'm surprised Valve never bothered to address the ongoing spambot problem.
I know the feeling. I experienced it myself reporting scam groups for over half a year now.

You just have to be annoying about it. Keep reporting it, keep bringing it up once and again with Steam Support whenever there is seemingly nothing being done.

Their rule enforcement is incredibly inconsistent and seems to entirely depend on whoever is working through reports. Some seem to take it more seriously while others dont seem to bother, not read your reports/tickets whatsoever and just dismiss every and all concerns.

Thanks, I had reported some, their profiles were changed to private when I checked later. At least for this type of acount (obvious bots) it's effective, however it can't prevent bots on the way :steamfacepalm:. Everyday I see a different wave of bot accounts, all different name & avatar, and promoting different supicious websites.

I also have submitted a ticket to Steam Support talking about the situation. In the reply the support encouraged me to post in the forum and so I did...

Spambots are a different kind. Have you ever seen these types of comments posted on users' profiles that are nothing but emojis and even have game bans along with just simple "hello" on their comment profile? Yeah, this is a clear case of spambots that are slowly starting to run amok. Even if they are banned, they'll continue to pop up unless Valve starts hitting the source of the rise of spambots instead of playing a never-ending game of whack-a-mole.

That was there polite way of telling you to go away.

Steam support does not manage the groups or the forums.

Also, this is a user to user ONLY steam related sub-forum. There are ZERO Valve or Steam staff / employees reading the steam related sub-forums.......
