hacked account
Hey ppl.. This is kinda my last resort writing here but maybe someone who went through similar experience can help?

Yersterday god knows how my account was hacked. The person(s) managed to change my email to theirs and even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ verified it which is beyond me how they managed to do that. The funny thing is the only reason I noticed it was because there was an unknown game in my steam library added yersterday.

I went into my account settings and noticed an unfamiliar email.
In the process they have also successfully removed my phonenumber from the account.

Out of some sheer dumb luck they have not yet changed my password as I managed to access steam on windows as it is set to auto start on windows startup. So I have tried opening a support ticket but I am not getting and replies from them and also I am afraid if the person realises that I did open a ticket through the acc they will change the PW and also cancel that ticket request.

Please note that steam guard was not enabled for my acc (there was some mobile issues in the past with it and I didnt re-enable it after however I still have this R code from the initial setup)

I have gone through the process of trying to recover it using this: https://steamhelp.yuanyoumao.com/en/wizard/HelpWithAccountStolen

But when I filled out the last page with the details like earliest email, last 4 card digit etc. and hit send, I get the code in my email HOWEVER when I actually enter it, I get an "contact steam support, invalid captcha" error...

i have also tried writing them "support@steampowered.com" which returned a "Thank you for contacting Valve.  This email address is no longer monitored."

At this point I really have no idea how tf I can recover my account..

Disagree all you want, but the fact of the matter is you were phished. Nobody is ever hacked. You either:

- Visited a malicious website and entered your details there
- Visited a malicious website and downloaded shady software which has compromised the security of your account and PC
- Interacted with an obvious scammer via Steam private messages, Discord, or other social media
- Sharing your account with someone.

Again, nobody is ever hacked. Steam is unable to restore any lost items as a result of a user's poor secrity. YOU are responsible for YOUR account at all times.

For help restoring and securing an account, please see the guide below.

You may also wish to reach out to Steam support by creating a support ticket via the 'Help' menu found at the top of the Steam client. If you have already done this, then you should wait for Steam to reply which can take 48 hours or more depending on how busy they are.

Your account was NOT “hacked”, it was phished. Like the vast majority of people who are phished, you likely visited an obvious scam site and entered your details there.

Account security is YOUR responsibility at all times. Steam will not assist you in returning any lost items.

In the future, STOP visiting obvious scam sites othering weapon skins or whatever.

No one was hacked. Login data was willingly given out, and now the consequences are simply taking effect.

Unlikely. We safeguard our data ... never offering it to the marketplace of strangers.

Valve offers ample means for self-help; you merely need to read and act.

Which part of my post was not clear about me going through the selfservice?

Honestly you and the first commenter must be very bored to go through posts to write completely useless messages that prove to be as helpful as a painkiller for a dead headshot victim.

AS I mentioned in my post I tried the selfservice already that returns the error:
We had trouble verifying your captcha, please try to complete the captcha again."

and yes I have tried it a few times.. anything else?

Turn off your VPN. VPNs can cause CAPTCHA issues. The support ticket is the ONLY way to contact Steam support. There is no email and there is no phone number / live chat.

If you're not using a VPN (which you will 99.99% claim you aren't), try using another device and network. For further support, please refer to the guide I posted in my previous comment. Nobody here is from Steam support, so nobody can provide you with official support.

In the future, keep your account(s) secure and avoid using malicious websites / software. This way you won't ever go through the headache you're currently having with your account.

I am not claiming anything, its a fact that I dont use VPN :) Anyhow I tried the process after browsercleaning and switching browser which seems to have worked. I am now waiting for steam support to get back to me.

Thanks for the "help"

You're welcome. I'm sorry I somehow offended you today by giving up my free time to help you with links and guides.

Good luck securing your account and please remember to avoid obvious malicious websites at all times. Hope you have a great time in Battlefield 6 (it's a fantastic game) and a great upcoming weekend. :)

The reason your tickets are self closing is because whoever is sitting on your account has a bot auto closing them to prevent you from reaching out to support for help.

Do the following steps to secure your account:
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices https://proxy.yuanyoumao.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a trusted/clean device.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://proxy.yuanyoumao.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

Lets agree that your first message to this post was anything but helpful. Besides that the guide did nothing for me as I already did all of that. The only thing helped was to switch browser and or do a browsercleaning.

I am not offended but rather anxious that I lose my account which in my opinion is understandable when its impossible to reach support directly. Like if selfservice is not working and is throwing errors what can I do? What if browser switching didnt help etc.

Anyhow thanks for the help and for taking time to send me the guide. Hope you will have a great weekend as well (and yes as an avid bf3 fan, bf6 is amazing indeed)
