Dearest Steam Community Discussion,

I wanted to share a little pet theory I've been cooking up in my own steamer (my mind) about the possible origins of the title for steam's newest, latest, and greatest invention, and the true first born child of the 10th generation of gaming consoles: the Steam Machine.

Here's my scalding and evocative take:

It's named after the hot billowing vapors that emanate from the lower-half of Valve's mascot-in-chief & world's most lore-accurate Jabba the Hutt cosmetic cosplayer himself, Gabe Newell, any time he slithers into a room.

p.s. (play station, haha get it? Last time we'll ever hear of that sorry excuse for a console now that Valve's unleashing the Source of the game brain trust upon a naïve & unprepared world)

Do you suppose he'll be bringing a copy of it with him on his new yacht this holiday season?Show of hands please.

I know the Steam Machine isn't even out yet, but it's my dream to work at Valve one day so I hope they read my suggestion for their next console. Valve should add a patch to the Steam Machine that let's you search the web, and download additional programs that aren't games so you can perform any task you desire, all on one device. Steam Machine+ anyone? Alternative title could be "Powerful Console", or PC for short.

Alright that's about as much as my little finger-soaked chinchilla Cheetos can pump out in one sitting. Fellow Gamers- over and out!

you cant have Jaguar or Lynx either

just call it machine and be done with it

You could also fire up your computer to play Steam games and be done with it even faster.

The Steam Machine is an AIO (All-in-one) mini PC. Valve even states this in their advertising campaign. The original SteamOS was published (for free) in an attempt to have people build their own custom "Steam Machines" but it never took off in 2015.

Arch Linux is one of the best advanced (expert) distro's on the market. The problem is that the Steam Machine is an entry-level gaming device and not geared towards hardcore gamers, so it's limitations will be seen on higher resolutions.

The Steam console is more so for people that cannot afford a higher priced gaming PC.

I hope Valve re-releases (for free publicly) the SteamOS 2.0 for development usage for desktop PC's, laptops, mobile devices, etc...
