Everyone should have at least a pair. If the internet or cell grid goes down, how are you gonna keep contact with someone while separated? You’re boned.

i haven't heard it called that ever. we called them two way radios.

i've been in several employment positions where the company had an intra-company radio net with a licensed frequency, and the radios were usually vehicle mounted for long range transmissions, or you could take a mobile one for short range transmissions.

We never need a license to use one, but my Auntie owned a few and we had to take one with us if we went out into the bush incase we got into any trouble.

Funny enough that happened here 6 months ago, but it lasted for only 12 h/15 h depending location...

I still remember teachers in primary saying that we would panic if we did not have internet and that it would be a chaos, and now that I have lived a blackout I can confirm that all those teachers were wrong, everybody was chill (except people stuck on trains v:)

I guess those people stuck on elevators really needed walkietalkies back then...

"over". You always need to say "over" when You´re finished. Except You say "out", which means You don´t want to say anything any more. And You´d need to say something like "do You copy?" as introduction to check the connection.

It´s also super nice, when You have really good equipment and want to do some secret operation. Like there would be some super loud "KRSHSK" sound everything someone clicks a button, and in general there would be some loud white noise in the background all the time, when the other one says something, while it´s rather the voice which is in the background. "Radio silence, out", "What? Didn´t copy. alpha papa whickey dog tango omega, please repeat. Didn´t copy. Over."
