The Hobbit (2003) Videogame: Can we bring it to Steam?
My all time favorite videogame has to be The Hobbit by Sierra Entertainment. But sadly it is not available on Steam. Does anyone know who to talk to to get the ball rolling on this? I would pay good to get the game on Steam!

Heh, I actually remember that game. I played it a lot on the GameCube as a kid.

Apparently it's already released for PC so I don't see any reason as to why it shouldn't come to Steam unless the port is beyond horrible which is likely.

It was released for Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, and PC all at the same time I believe. Plus the GBA version. What do you mean my "port"?

The PC version of the game is excellent and is available on disk only. As far as I know it isn't being sold anymore by Sierra most likely because their licence has expired to sell Tolkien games. If you want to play it again on the PC you'll have to find someone online willing to sell it. I don't see this game ever coming to Steam unfortunately.

It's considered abandonware so unless someone picks up the rights to it AND decides to offer support, chances are it won't wind up on Steam. A game is technically considered abandonware when it has received zero support from any publisher or developer for roughly 5-10 years. That includes being sold on Steam. So chances are it won't wind up on Steam.

Maybe, It's not abandoned until the IP is released from the ownership

There's some laws that indicate that after X years inventions become property of the public,
It's not implied when there's a corporation because it's considered an individual in law and only is an exception when the inventor dies, which will be X years after the company is D.E.A.D and nobody claimed the ownership, it's not the case with the LOTR franchise where the IP is licensed to the highest bidder. Just take an example of EA owning skeletons in the closet so that nobody can claim them.

How much would you pay?

I seem to think that you care what a bunch of out-of-touch, good-for-nothing, plutocratic, carpetbagging hoarders want out of life.
You thought wrong.

The chance is sure slightly increased if you try this at G.O.G...🤔
Or start a kickstarter campaign...

I figured as much. I think I'd be more okay if it were on GOG to be honest.

Oh man I’m glad you brought this up. Been trying to find this game for awhile now. I hope it comes to steam eventually. I have such great memories of it when it first released.

I could type "my abandonware" into Google, then search for "the hobbit" and then follow all the instructions.

If I wanted to.
even years later we still dont have it

wish someone made a game akin to it
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
