MS subsidizes preinstalled OSes to maintain that monopoly. Steam's hardware survey pretty much confirms it.
Every new PC is a new way to farm DATA. Esepcially with 11 and copilot AI.
You can buy computers that ship with Linux- you just have to look for them.
I think that when SteamOS launches for desktop though you may see some PCs ship with that.
Considering that modern PC's doesn't come with CD/DVD drives. How would a user install windows without using a different computer? Installing Windows using flash drive is a hit or miss depending on the motherboard that provides installation by flash drive as a boot up option.
Most consumer PC's already factored in the price that you pay for purchase of windows software. So there would not be needed to pay for software twice.
linux and google chrome need experience to program stuff, so you need to work more to run your stuff with linux and google chrome
pretty sure you can buy used and completely wiped laptops and other machines on net markets and such, also search for system76 and pinebook, those two are pretty popular.
if you really want a completely free system, search libreboot, and coreboot, this is only if you are really paranoid (like void users). i'm sure there is a lot that i could be missing, but these come to mind with your question, i hope this helps.
