VALVE
It's the platform that gives meaning to the PC experience.

A few hours after the official announcement, there's news from the Big Boss. They've spent $500 million on the new ship. All good, except for one thing: the super gaming PCs on display (defined as high-profile) are definitely not Steam Machines.
:O

For those who haven't found the news, they are about the 15 PCs loaded on board the "boat".

Can gamers choose real Steam Machine hardware, standardizing the market and stopping manufacturers of a thousand different parts and crazy developers from testing only on graphics cards that catch fire and explode?

How can they possibly be Steam machines as those are not even in production to be bought. Pretty sure if Gabe wants a Steam machine or any other Valve tech onboard, then he can organise that himself as and when.

I don't understand why the 15 computer even have to be Steam machines in your eyes? It really doesn't matter.

The boat would be specced out a long time ago and the new Steam hardware doesn't come out for another 3- 5 months or so.
