Option to disable achievements as user
I suggest Valve to add an option to disable achievements for the users on Steam.

My idea would be to have the option to basically just hide the achievement related things on steam and steam community, but keep the functionality as it already is.
This way everyone could turn them on or off any time and people who don't want any change with achievements aren't affected at all, because they can still see the achievements if they don't disable them.

It should ideally remove the personal achievements section in the library/all owned games and on the steam profile.

Wow you have a lot of them
Yeah but I noticed that Achievments are slowly killing my enyojment of gaming... + Every single DLC or event = sometimes new achievments...

Sometimes I don't buy games bc of the Hard AF Achievments list ( PayDay 2 with 1000 + Achievs as a example ).

I just wish to stop it. But without the option to hide it its rly hard to do that u know...

Hiding wouldn't be enough. You should be able to opu-out of achievements entirely, deleting all of the ones you have and never getting any new ones. I would enjoy games much more if that was the case.

+1 great idea, it should also be available on a game by game basis imo so that anything that adds more achievements through DLC can be disabled.

The idea is awesome tbh. But let's be honest its way too "hardcore" for them to implement sadly. And you know some achievments are server based etc. and as far im aware nobody can change them.

Just simple option like " Hide whole achievment part of the games " would be awesome for start! :)

100% supporting this suggestion for some reason :LewdVirus:
Now that Steam is this big on PC marked it's about time to get the option to disable/hide achievements finally.

I think there really is no difference, expect hiding it would make it possible to still earn them in the background in case the user decides to display them again. Also it would still keep the global achievement stats in balance.
This has been suggested thousands of times.
The achievements likely generate online community engagement. It caters to a certain audience.

Try offline mode.
Turn off the achievement pop-up.
Don't look at your own profile.

Still hoping Valve reacts properly finally, i guess it wasn't suggested enough at all yet.
The system on steam doesen't even work because there is no general quality control which leads to a lot of broken achievements, also there are homepages where people just can unlock the achievements.
Also as seen right here, some people just get annoyed by the sole existence of those achievements which could potentially cause them to go to other stores or buy retail instead.

Is there a way to disable the popup?

Settings -> Notifications -> Select "When i am not in-game" from the first option to hide achievement popups

The difference is psychological. If I know I didn't get "Kill 4 people with one explosion" achievement in Deus Ex MD, a game where you're encouraged not to kill anyone, I'm pissed. I'd rater not be able to get any achievement at all that to get all but a few that require me to get out of my way to get them (let alone broken ones or ones that require you to use an online part in a single player game). I often play GOG games via direct download rather than through the client only so that I don't get achievements. In fact, some games I buy on GOG rather than on steam for the same reason.

It seems there is no way to completely remove them. Not even in offline mode. But if you delete your temporary files and then put it offline, it cannot load the images of the achievements. Instead it just shows gray squares in the library. This makes the library look more clean.
But if you connect to the internet it downloads those files again, and the images reappear.

You will still get achievements. Even in offline mode. And they show up in your library.
