I mean, Family is intended for sharing within the same household. Given the current world we live in, 6 sounds quite reasonable.

It is more than enough for most people out there while limiting abuse. It's a good compromise.

Of course it sucks if you happen to be within the small number of people who got more than 6 gamers at home. But, Valve does not need to cater to every edge case out there.

Don't expect this to change anytime soon if you ask me.

A line must be drawn somewhere to prevent abuse. The system itself is already restrictive in that it requires a mutually used system and the same store region to be eligible.

Households of more than six members are extremely uncommon and a family this size is very suspicious.

No, you do not get to rent your library away.

Valve may consider increasing the number of members once they figure a way to 100% confine the system to work only within the registered household so randoms, "friends" and relatives not living in the household can't abuse it.

Average household size in the 1st world is under 2,5. 4+ person household are fairly uncommon, even rare in the 1st world these days. 6 person Steam Family size covers 95%+ of all households in the first world so there is no point of giving more slots for few legitimate use cases when most would just abuse it.

Six gives room for mother, father and 4 children, that is plenty generous. Your seventh will simply be excluded. Valve would sooner charge a fee for more slots.
