block button should prevent people going through your post history
for those wondering exactly why i'm suggesting this.
it's because I've noticed an increasing number of people on the forums are getting way to comfortable cyber stalking people across multiple sub-forums even after being blocked.

your blocking someone because they are harassing you, but you'd leave them the tools to continue following you around and doing it?
tell me what exactly do you lose if people block you and you can't look at their post history?
what do you lose if people can no longer follow your posts after you block them?

the problem with this will always be the same

you block me and i cannot see your history

i log into another account and see everything

i can copy/paste anything from one to the other

edit:

and that is the easy way to see all of it in one spot

anyone can do a simple search and get your posts as these are "public" forums

better to have it then go without. it still a discouragement
but if you want another reason.
if nothing is done then steam might end up in hot water sooner or later.
most countries have outlawed cyberstalking when it comes to online harassment. of course you also could argue to just make it so only Moderators can go through someones post history.
and only a user can go through their own post history.

All they have to do is log out or change account, even google can be used to search postings from a user.

Learn to ignore it when you see a comment marked as blocked.

there are laws against stalking

cyber and otherwise

there are steps you can take that will actually stop a stalker

what you are asking for is not even a bandaid

it is so easy to get around

and preventing everyone from seeing everyone's history is overboard

it helps to identify patterns

and i have no idea how they would stop it from showing in a simple google search of

"steam name" steam forums

without making it totally private

Yes, I know this is a hotly debated topic, but I don’t see why users shouldn’t have the ability to:

A)Make their post history private to all but Steam mods (not subforum mods, Steam mods). Yes, I know trolls and ragebaiters would private too, but so would people who are simply tired of people following them around on Steam or going through their entire post history to find a random unrelated post to harass them about/report them to a hyper-zealous subforum moderator because “person not kissing corporate boots, person must be punished.”

B)Stop people stalking their posts. I’ve only had a brief incident of this but it was scary, annoying, and I felt powerless because it occurred on a subforum known for having mods that pick favorites who they absolutely will NOT ban under any circumstances-and they answer to NO ONE. Literally. They don’t answer to Valve, they don’t answer to the dev/publisher who picked them. All I could do was report every post this person made personally attacking/name-calling me-long after I had ceased interacting with them and blocked them.

It stopped within around week in my case but I don’t know if it was because a mod sent them a warning (they were never banned) or they simply got bored. I have now heard of another person who was stalked and harassed by an individual for over A YEAR-originating from the same subforum, and said user followed them to other Steam forums as well to leave a jester on every post they made. I don’t think this behavior is remotely okay (it’s actually very creepy) nor do I think it’s something Valve should allow-whether the behavior is occurring on a Steam forum or a Steam subforum.

you mean i can just block you again and force you to do the process once again?

That's assuming you know the other account exists. If they don't post it with it or use it anywhere on the Steam community, how would you know the account exists to block it in the first place?

If someone is actually „cyber stalking“ you, a block won't stop them.

pretty much this

"i" do not need to post on the account that i search with

i just copy/paste it into my response

we are not talking someone that is just trolling

op is talking about a stalker

because the boards are the public face of the forums

we have our own accounts that we can keep private and friends only

we can start our own groups that can have the rules we choose

these boards are for everyone

unless they break the rules, of course

Actually that was changed somewhat recently. Post history can only be viewed when logged in now.

That’s when you go over the subforum’s head and report the profile directly, and provide specific details to Steam support. Sunforum might not ban based on comment reports, but steam mods sure as hell will if you report the profile directly if it is a case of stalking and targeted harassment… eventually….
