they got successful enough they could afford to buy shirts, apparently.
A wish made on a Monkey's paw came true. People wanted more realism for more immersion. Welcome to realism. Most people on the streets TODAY don't look like supermodels. Imagine what they looked like during the Middle ages, when MEDICINE was not even a thought, let alone cosmetic surgeries.

You know interestingly enough speaking of realism, Avowed is set in a tropical continent, yet every single female character there is dressed similarly to Victorian England. And no it's not a deliberate style, they're all from different races, and cultures, socioeconomic status, occupations... but all share the same Purian dress code.

They must really like sweating.

When you let people who can’t define what a woman is design women characters you get man made horrors beyond your comprehension.

Smells like budget cuts. Frankly, the only Obsidian game I played was "Pillars of Eternity" and I liked it. "Avowed" lost my interest as soon as I saw that it's first-person and open world, both red flags for me. It's not just Obsidian though, realism is infecting other studios and genres. That's why I stick to games with expressive art styles and weird character design. I wish more studios took inspiration from "Dragon's Crown" or "Valkyria Chronicles" instead of chasing realism. But... the best I can do is support the obscure and niche games which DO have design I like.
They're both awful..

That's realism for you? Where do you live so we all can never visit, because you are around nothing but ugly women

They hate making money and are trying to do a a rl speed run to getting their colleagues in an unemployment line like Square Enix.
Activism is rife in media.. Stop buying the stuff and it will die off.

Most people on the streets aren't a stripper inside a strip club. Because most strip clubs (including the one on the left in the screenshot) are indoors.

No, where I live, people look normal. Men and women alike. No hourglass figures, no perfect hair and skin, no chiseled muscle male bodies. And if Eve from Stellar Blade or Bayonetta from the same named game are your STANDARD, then you must be seeing 99% of the world's population as ugly.

I'll admit I didn't focus on the clothes, but the faces.
Modern game design. Ridiculous distorted depiction of nearly sexless human-like figures and all ethnic groups mixed together to please everyone.

Game & character design these days is absurd. Even worse is that developers are following these trends and passing them on to end customers which makes the credibility even more ridiculous in many games.

Oh noes, a studio has a different design choice nowadays.

I wouldn't have noticed, lol. But I don't check the clothes of characters in games. I just, you know, play the game.

Let's be honest though, if, for example, Vanillaware, Falcom or Arc System Works would change their core design, there would be backlash. Then again, those are studios where expressive and colourful design is an important part of the games' appeal.

I don't know. Series and franchises have undergone changes. It offsets one subset of players, it finds a new one.

Honestly, I think most people overestimate how important such things are in the grand scheme for people. But I play and enjoy a wide variety art styles, basically all lol.

But then again, when something changes and I don't like it, I just shrug and move to another game.
