steam crashes when making a purchase.
this doesn't seem to be something you can report in support but twice now I have put in all my cc details and when I hit continue with purchase steam totally disappears. the cart is still there when I get back but I can't continue with purchase to add items to my library.

any hints appreciated.

There is a bug report about a crash while checking out adding funds. Sounds related...

that seems to explain it but I'm not doing steam wallet funds. I'd have to double check nothing in the current kart uses wallet funds.

I'll try in an hour again.
Are you using the beta client?

Where are you located? If in Russia, that is a banned country for any Steam purchases/payments so most likely the issue here.

Change your wrong rule(r)s, wait for Steam to reflect that, try again! :)

I'm in the same home since I joined steam 18 years ago, same desk even though the tower has had a few upgrades. never had this or any other issues going back to day one.

the only thing of note between now and last purchase is some low life tried to steal my account by visually cloning a friends accout and wanted me to sign into a dodgy dota server. I don't even play dota. so put in a complaint and changed all my passwords just to be sure and yes I have steam guard too.

ok full restart and update still doing almost exactly the same thing but now steam refreshing to a blank page.

You must know that Steam tech support personnel does not read this thread or forum.

Please submit a support request with them, if not already done.

in Australia. idid look at the support links an none of the linked options went anywhere usefull. i took a tumble yesterday and cracked a rib so attention not what it should be. I'll have another look at the support options in the morning after some rest. waiting on new pain killers to kick in so I can actually sleep right. I did just have a very minor isse with the app, I couldn't get into my wish list.

Okay, quick update I can now buy things again, not sure what has changed but I did notice that it now remembers my cc details so I'm thinking some glitch related to that.

I never did find an answer to y problem in support though.
i've been having the same problem! this is the only other instance i've found of someone having the same issue as me, so i'm also a bit upset that we didn't get a clear answer. just like how you described, the desktop program lets me enter all my credit card info, but when i try to progress to the actual purchase, steam closes without a word. i tried purchasing something else just to check if it was the game that was the problem, and the same thing happened.

i was able to buy the game on the browser website, but it's a really roundabout and impractical way of doing it, and the fact that this bug(?) is even a thing concerns me. i already tried restarting the computer and reinstalling the program, and nothing's worked yet. worst case scenario there's something wrong with my computer, but as you did say it got fixed on your end, i'll allow myself to hope it'll get fixed for me too.
