99.99% of games on Steam are safe. I really wouldn't be worrying about this.

Read my topic on this discussion branch.
Never play free games from unknown or poorly known developer.
You will never want to give away game you made for free without any profits.
If game is paid, profit is your money.
If game is free, profit is you and your data.

Block Blasters says hi. And yes, this game was removed. However, when Valve allows a game that robs people of their money, especially related to cryptocurrency, then it's not a good sign.

If they allowed it, then it wouldn't have been removed.

Games do rarely get through the filter, but they are quickly removed when found.

What's unfortunate is that a gamer who was having terminal cancer had thousands of dollars stolen by a malware disguised as a game on Steam. Yes, he got his money back by supporters, but this is what happens when Valve completely overlooks any and all games that can and will potentially cause harm without warning.
Most of these are only targeting crypto wallets.

That is unfortunate, but still an extremely rare occurrence. Again, these games are removed quickly when identified, and there's never very many of them.

its hard for me to blame steam on this it does appear relatively harmless
then after awhile it deploy malware update

but still this make finding a new good game harder

It doesn't make finding a new game harder. Games like this are extremely rare.

You will be fine with almost every other game on the store.

That's why you need to be careful in buying games that comes off as fishy. AAA games and AA games are safe to buy, as are games from legitimate indie devs. But even so, you have to watch what you buy, you may never know what will happen until it's too late.

It sucks that Valve never gave the victim their money back, especially after having thousands of dollars stolen. It took a certain time for donors to give him the money he previously lost.

How can Valve, a company that does not deal in crypto, give a crypto user their money back?

If the game wasn't free, they would have refunded them, that's the limit of what they can do.

Refrain from buying cheap meme indie stuff and you will be fine.. Cheap stuff is more likely to be scamware or malware.

The problem is that Valve themselves are not acting fast enough, and they've been pretty much under fire on Twitter/X and Bluesky so yes, us users can report games that are fishy. The problem is that Valve are notorious for not taking action fast enough.
